Nissan Magnite Production gets underway at Chennai manufacturing facility ahead of year-end launch

Nissan Magnite production-ready model was globally unveiled recently on the 22nd of October, 2020. Nissan Magnite would be pitted against recently launched Kia Sonet, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon in the highly competitive sub-4 metre SUV segment in India. The Japanese automaker has not revealed the launch date so far but thanks to our friends at Team-BHP, we got our hands on the images of the model rolling out of production. Manufacturing of the upcoming SUV has already started at Nissan’s Oragadam plant near Chennai. Our guess is that the Nissan Magnite would be launched sometime next month. Nissan Magnite is an important model for Nissan which has been struggling to cement its position in one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing automotive markets. Nissan India will further be exporting the sub-compact SUV to different markets like Indonesia, Bhutan, Sri Lanka among others. Its price is expected to lie in the range of Rs 5.30 - Rs 7.50 lakhs (ex-showroom), India.

Magnite is based on the Renault-Nissan CMF-A+ platform that currently underpins the Renault Triber 7-seater MPV and the upcoming Renault Kiger compact SUV. Moving on to the design, the front profile boasts of dual-projector LED headlamps, octagonal grille derived from Datsun and roof rails. Further the inclusion of L-shaped DRL's, LED turn indicators, LED fog lamps with skid plate integrated into the bumper make the SUV very attractive to look at. Its side profile is highlighted via dual-tone alloy wheels while the rear stands to provide LED tailights and a skid plate. Upping the style quotient is the presence of 'MAGNITE’ lettering on the tailgate.

Nissan Magnite's interior is expected to be packed with a whole lot of features considering its nearest rival Kia Sonet that comes pretty loaded in terms of the equipment list on-board. Expect the cabin to boast of elements like a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, premium leather-wrapped steering wheel, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, LED ambient lighting, Nissan’s connected car technology among many others.

The Magnite is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 71 bhp of power output and 96 Nm of peak torque. It would be mated to a manual transmission. There is a posibility that Nissan could also offer a 1.0-litre turbo-charged petrol engine which was showcased earlier this year during the Delhi Auto Expo 2020. This engine is capable of churning a maximum power output of 95 bhp as it could come equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and CVT gearbox as an option. Do not expect a diesel powertrain to be launched in the near future.
