Nissan considering to launch Patrol in India as a brand building exercise, will be brought as a CBU unit.

Nissan is considering to launch Patrol in the Indian market. The Japanese automaker is seeking to re-invent itself in India and this XXL-sized SUV will serve as brand building for them. If Nissan decides to do so, then the Compact Patrol SUV will be brought in as a completely built unit, under the Government’s new rules that allow a carmaker to import up to 2,500 units without the need of homologation. The rugged Nissan Patrol is expected to be priced at Rs 1.5 crores (ex-showroom). If launched, then it will be competing against the likes of Lexus LX and Toyota Land Cruiser in the Indian market.

The current-generation Nissan Patrol has been on sale in the international market since 2010. It received its second-facelift in the end of 2019. The SUV gets a revamped front-end. Dimensionally, the Patrol measures 5.1 m in length and 2 m in width.

The model to be introduced in the Indian market is expected to get an interior update that sees the switch to a more modern dashboard. Nissan Patrol boasts of plush interiors, justifying its premium price tag. The 2020 model comes equipped with a new centre console that houses dual-screen. The 3-row SUV boasts of new diamond stitch quilted leather seats.

India is likely to get the Patrol in the same spec as it is being sold in the international markets. It will be offered with a 5.6-litre, V8 petrol engine that produces 405 bhp power and 560 Nm torque. The engine will be mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox with AWD. A smaller 4-litre, V6 petrol engine that produces 275 bhp with 394 Nm torque is available in the UAE market. But Nissan is expected to bring the powerful version to Indian shores.
