The new Leaf will look more aggressive and is predicted to have a range of 547km.

Nissan has teased its next-generation Leaf, which will launch globally next year. The image released shows the car’s headlight, which uses more angular lines and harder edges, hinting at the car’s overall design. This, and the sightings of development cars, suggest that the new Leaf’s design is inspired by the new Micra.

The Leaf’s electric drivetrain is predicted to have a range of up to 547km – more than double the current car’s range. And that’s 145 km further than Renault’s Zoe.

The new battery pack options for the Leaf will enable Nissan to sell the car in a variety of specs, similar to what Tesla does with its cars. The largest battery could double the 30kWh lithium-ion pack that’s currently fitted in the highest spec Leaf.

The leaf will lead Nissan's charge to make EVs 20 percent of its sales by 2020.
