Displaying one’s caste or name or even community on the registration plate of the vehicle is something that Indians love doing. This has inspired not only countless memes from the online community but has also caught the eye of the law. Therefore, when Gautam Buddh Nagar Police recently conducted the ‘Operation Clean’ in Noida, such offenders were also targeted. This operation was undertaken by the police to keep a check on traffic rule violations and other related offences in the city. This was the 8th iteration of the drive and this time around, the police was issuing challans to the offenders on the spot.
Operation Clean saw Gautam Buddh Nagar police arresting 8 people and fining around 2,450 vehicles on the roads of Noida and Greater Noida. The police had set around 76 checkpoints across the district in order to get hold of the offenders. The drive also saw 99 vehicles being impounded by the police in the district. The drive was conducted from 10 AM to 12 PM in the entire district.
The official spokesperson for the Gautam Buddh Nagar police department said,
“The first part of the campaign was carried out from 10 am to 12 noon in the entire district. The second part will be launched at 6 pm. A total 2,441 vehicles were issued challan for traffic violations, including 1,470 e-challans.”
Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police of Gautam Buddh Nagar district spoke to PTI about the drive and stated,
"As many as 1,457 vehicles were issued challans for various violations. Of them, 977 were two-wheelers, while 480 were four-wheelers. The violations included having black films on cars, having unauthorised writings denoting caste, religion, profession, link to political parties, etc. Another 99 vehicles, 91 of them two-wheelers, were impounded for not having requisite license and documents."
The crackdown on traffic violations including unauthorised number plates in Noida and nearby areas was long due as Noida is one of the busiest cities of the area. Traffic violations in such cities is a major menace as it not only causes massive jams but the use of unauthorised number plates also makes tracking of cars nearly impossible. As of now, there is no information whether the drive from the police will continue in the future but such drives in the coming times will go a long way in making the streets of Gautam Buddh Nagar safer and more organized than before.
