The odd even rule in Delhi 2019 has been implemented again to check the increased rate of pollution in the city. This will continue from November 4 to November 15, timing from 8 am to 8 pm.

As per the odd-even scheme, vehicles with registration numbers ending in odd digits like 1,3,5,7,9 can ply on Delhi roads only on odd dates. While the vehicles with license plates ending in even digits like 0,2,4,6,8 can be driven only on even dates.

The odd even rule in Delhi 2019 has been implemented from 8 am to 8 pm from November 4 to November 15, excluding November 10 (Sunday).

What are the penalties for the odd-even scheme offenders?

This time the government has decided to levy heavy fines on those who don’t follow the odd-even scheme.

Earlier, a fine of Rs. 2000 was imposed on the offender but this time the fine has been raised to as much as Rs.20,000 due to implementation of the new Motor Vehicle’s Act.

However, it is likely that the state government is likely to reduce the fines pertaining to the odd-even scheme.

Infact, there is some odd even rule in Delhi 2019 exceptions that allows certain type of vehicles to ply on the Delhi road irrespective of their number plates.

• The odd-even rule takes in to force from 8 am to 8 pm on all days form 4 November to 15 November, except Sundays

• Like in the past, CNG vehicles, electric vehicles, and hybrid vehicles are exempted from the odd-even scheme

• Two-wheelers such as scooters and bikes need not follow odd-even rule

• Those vehicles who are carrying children in school uniform are also exempted

• Commercial vehicles that have yellow number plates, including CNG-run cabs, three-wheeler, and four-wheeler tempos, autos and taxis are allowed to ply during the odd-even rule

• Emergency service vehicles like ambulances, fire engines, and vehicles meant for public services are exempted from the scheme

• Vehicles of SPG (special protection group) officers, paramilitary forces, Ministry of Defence, and other law enforcement vehicles need to follow odd-even scheme

• Embassy vehicles with diplomatic corps number are kept out of the odd-even scheme

• Vehicles that belong to person holding high positions such as President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Minister of all states (except Delhi), Governors of the states, Chief Justice of India, Union Ministers, Judges of Delhi High Court and Supreme Court, Leaders of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Deputy Speaker of the LokSabha and Lokayukta are exempted from the scheme

With this rationing of the traffic, lakhs of people must adjust to an alternative mode of the transport system. The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal has urges people to switch to public transport like metro, carpool with fellow commuters for a more convenient ride.
