It will be sold in three variants namely A 200, A 220 d and A 35 AMG

Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the A-Class sedan in the Indian market on March 25, 2021. First showcased at last year’s Delhi Auto Expo, the premium sedan’s launch was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The New A-Class will replace the CLA in Mercedes Benz India's product portfolio thereby becoming the most affordable vehicle in the line-up. It will be locally assembled at the German automaker’s Chakan manufacturing facility in Pune. The sedan takes inspiration from the A-Class hatchback being sold globally. Do not expect the hatchback to arrive in the domestic market in the near future. Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will be sold in three variants namely A 200, A 220 d and A 35 AMG. Its price is expected to start from Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom), Delhi. Bookings have opened for the car with deliveries scheduled to commence post the launch. Once introduced it will directly compete with the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe in the country.

Talking about the design, one can look forward to a curved front fascia that provides a signature diamond studded grille and wraparound LED headlamps. The model sports a high roofline but is a proper five-seater vehicle. Upping the premium quotient are the sportier alloy wheels, circular dual-tip exhaust pipes and split L-shaped LED taillights. Overall, the sedan follows a flowing design philosophy which helps in reducing air drag. One could say Mercedes Benz has adopted a minimalist design approach for the A-Class sedan.

Talking about the interior, the cabin follows the typical Mercedes-Benz twin-screen layout. It would include an infotainment system and instrument cluster. The AC vents get piano-black finish. Also, the sedan will come loaded with the latest Mercedes MBUX system (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). Other key features would include wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats, panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting.

The sedan will be equipped with three engine options, a 1.3-litre petrol, 2.0-litre turbo diesel and an AMG version. The petrol-powered A 200 variant will deliver 161 bhp of maximum power output and 250 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). On the other hand, A 220 D variant would be powered by a turbo diesel motor which will belt out 148 bhp of maximum power output and 250Nm of peak torque. Its transmission duties will be taken care of by an 8-speed DCT automatic gearbox. While the AMG trim will deliver 302 bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. The high-performance engine will be provided with an all-wheel drive system and a 7-speed DCT.
