Maruti Suzuki has officially discontinued the Alto K10 hatchback in the Indian market post the implementation of BS6 emission norms from April 1, 2020. The company's website no longer shows the Alto K10. Though, Maruti has already updated the Alto 800 with a BS6 compliant 796cc 3-cylinder petrol engine which delivers top power and peak torque of 47bhp and 69Nm, respectively. Maruti Alto 800 is priced between Rs 2.99-3.58 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi).
Maruti Alto K10 was offered with a 1.0L 3-cylinder K10B petrol engine which generated maximum power output of 67bhp and peak torque performance of 90Nm, while mated to a 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. It was also available in CNG fuel trim. The reason behind not upgrading the Alto K10 seems to be allowing the S-Presso a free run in the small hatchback segment. The company had launched the Alto K10 nearly a decade back in 2010 as a stylish and advanced alternative to the regular Alto hatch. It was equipped with a more powerful engine, new features and upmarket styling. Maruti introduced the facelifted version of the hatch in 2014 with AMT gearbox option while nearly five years later, it gave the hatch plenty of safety updates.
With the implementation of BS6 emission norms in India from April 1, Maruti Suzuki had to discontinue a myriad of models which include its entire range of diesel vehicles such as S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, Swift, DZire, Baleno and Ignis. The company also phased out the high-performance Baleno RS while S-Cross also had to be taken off. But, it is being learnt that Maruti will relaunch the S-Cross with the BS6 compliant 1.5L K15B petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology, similar to the Vitara Brezza. The word is that the country's largest automaker is working on a BS6 compliant diesel engine which might be ready by mid 2021 and then it could reintroduce its diesel range of vehicles in India.
