Piaggio has digitally unveiled the One electric scooter ahead of its public premiere at the Beijing Motor Show. The brand has stated that the One electric scooter will go on sale by July in the European markets. Piaggio One is the company's second all-electric scooter and it showcases a glimpse of all the upcoming electric products from Piaggio. As far as the India launch is concerned, it is not expected to arrive here anytime soon, instead there could be an electric scooter from the Aprilia or Vespa brands.
As for features, Piaggio One is equipped with several bells and whistles in the form of keyless start, dual riding modes, LED lighting and USB charging. It also boasts of an all digital colored instrument cluster. Taking a leaf out of Vespa scooter's book, it too gets a single-sided trailing-link as front suspension while there is a double-sided swingarm with twin shock absorbers at the rear. The braking duties are carried out by disc brakes at both front and rear. The company has not revealed the specs of One electric scooter but one can clearly notice a hub-mounted motor which will draw power from a removable under seat battery pack. There is still no clarity if the swappable battery pack in this particular product has been developed by the syndicate of Piaggio, Honda and Yamaha.
Piaggio has stated that the battery can be charged by a traditional 5-amp socket both in the scooter and remotely. The charging time and range have not been divulged by the company but we expect that a fast-charging option will be offered. Piaggio has plans to develop several more electric two-wheelers on the One platform which includes even a moped and a bike. All these upcoming electric vehicles are expected to come with the swappable battery packs while the riding range will vary product to product. Piaggio One, though, is believed to offer a power output of around 5kW. The company will release the official details of the One electric scooter in the coming days.
