The German sports car manufacturer, Porsche renounces diesel engines in their vehicles.

The performance luxury carmaker, Porsche, becomes the first German manufacturer to abandon the usage of diesel engines in their vehicles. The manufacturer took this decision in reaction to the parent company Volkswagen’s emissions cheating scandal.

With abandoning the diesel segment, the manufacturer will concentrate more on petrol and hybrid vehicles, and eventually switching to pure EVs from 2019. The parent company Volkswagen has suffered a loss of 27 billion Euros in fines, recalls, vehicle buybacks and other legal costs. The dieselgate scandal also affected Porsche, as they had to recall around 60,000 SUVs in Europe. Another 13,500 units was affected, when the German regulators found irregularities in the 8-cylinder Cayenne EU5.

The company has stopped taking orders for their diesel models since February. However, the company will continue service and maintenance for their diesel vehicles which are present in the market. It is expected to see one million fully electric and hybrid vehicles on the German roads by 2022.
