Renault Kiger is an all-new sub-compact SUV which will be launched in October 2020 in India.

It is no longer a secret that Renault is working on an all-new sub-compact SUV for the Indian market. Being christened as 'Renault Kiger' by some sections of the media, it is currently undergoing test runs ahead of its apparent public premiere in October 2020. For the first time, the interior of the SUV has been captured on lens, courtesy our friends at AutoCar India. Renault Kiger will share some elements with the Triber MPV while it takes on the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300 and Toyota Urban Cruiser in India.

Going by the spy-image, the Renault Kiger interior will have different elements as compared to the Triber. The dashboard is new along with the design of the centre console. The 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system can be clearly noticed with AC vents beneath it. However, there is a glimpse of Triber in the form of a separate console for the engine start/stop button when we move further lower down. The side AC vents flaunt an unique appearance with the overall cabin finished in a dual-tone black and grey theme. The report further states that dual cooled gloveboxes and automatic climate control will also be offered with the Kiger. The steering wheel has been borrowed from the Triber while the digital instrument cluster has been given certain modifications before sourcing it from Triber MPV.

Underpinning the same CMF-A+ architecture as Renault Triber, the Kiger SUV will be available in petrol fuel trim only. The 1.0L engine will come in two power trims: 71bhp and 95bhp. The former will get an AMT unit while the latter will get the CVT gearbox, besides the traditional 5-speed manual transmission. The spied test mule is an automatic variant as there is no third pedal and a dead pedal is added for a coverup. The exterior styling would be pretty much on the lines of the whole Renault India family such as Kwid, Duster and Triber. The signature V-shaped front grille and split headlamps will be there upfront while alloy wheels could be offered with the top-ranging variants as standard.
