Renault New EV named Dacia Spring Electric unveiled in Europe, based on the Kwid

Renault in the European market has just unveiled the Dacia Spring Electric. Basically another name for Renault Kwid Electric in the international market, the EV was in fact showcased for the very first time during Delhi Auto Expo 2020 earlier this year. The 5-door small car is based on the Renault–Nissan Common Module Family (CMF-A) platform. In Europe, the French automaker plans to retail the Dacia Spring in 3 versions - the city car, car-sharing and cargo utility delivery. The manufacturer claims it to be the lowest-priced electric-powered vehicle in the European market. Pre-bookings are said to open in spring 2021 with the automaker throwing in the offer of the battery included in the purchasing price of the vehicle. From an Indian point of view, there is no information on its launch in the country though what we can expect is for it to come sometime next year.

Talking about the design, similar to Kwid the Dacia Spring Electric features an attractive front end. It stands to provide a massive bumper that comprises a pair of headlamps. Above the bumper in the centre sit a Dacia inspired grille. A part of the grille also serves as cover that can be opened or closed for slotting in a charging socket. The muscular hood further gives the EV a masculine appeal. Its side profile is more or less the same as the Renault Kwid currently on sale in India. Coming to the tailgate, it provides a pair of LED taillights, a Dacia badge right in centre and reflector inserts.

As for the interior, it boasts of features like a 7-inch touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a chrome-plated rotating dial gear stick, all-digital instrument cluster and air-conditioning vents with blue accents. The Dacia Spring EV comes with a 300-litre boot storage space that can be expanded further to 600-litres when the rear seats are folded down. In the cargo variant, the rear seats come removed in order to offer massive 800-litres of storage space.

The EV is powered by a 26.8kWh battery pack delivering 44 bhp of maximum power output and 125 Nm of peak torque. The manufacturer claims a range of 225 Kms for the Dacia Spring Electric on a single charge. The powerful battery supports fast charging. A 30kW CCS DC fast charger can recharge the battery upto 80 percent in just 60 minutes. If one uses the standard 7.4 KW wall box-charger,then the battery takes 5 hours to charge from 0 to 100 percent. Further, according to Renault it has a top speed of 100 kmph.

Coming back to India, what would be the likely cost of this EV? Well, expect the French automaker to price the Kwid Electric under Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom), India.
