In view of upcoming safety norms, Honda updates commuter segment models such as CB Shine, CD Dream, NAVi, and CB Unicorn.

Honda has updated its commuter segment models and has launched the updated 2019 versions of CB Shine, CD Dream, NAVi and CB Unicorn. The update has been given to the new models keeping in view the upcoming safety norms. In order for compliance, Shine, Dream and NAVi have been equipped with Combi-Braking System (CBS) as standard whereas the CB Unicorn has now single channel ABS as standard. Given the new features, the prices of new models of Honda have also been slightly bumped up and now the line-up is priced as:

Honda NAVi: Rs. 47,110 ex-showroom Delhi.

Honda 110cc CD Dream: Rs. 50,028 ex-showroom Delhi.

Honda CB Shine: Rs. 58,338 ex-showroom Delhi.

Honda CB Unicorn: Rs. 78,815 ex-showroom Delhi.

Apart from the safety equipment upgrade in the braking department, the new bikes just like the last year have new graphics on them. The quirky looking NAVi now has a new paint and gets side decals.

However, there are no new mechanical changes in NAVi as it still is equipped with a 109cc engine derived from Honda Activa. The moped also has the same frame and gearbox as the scooter Activa. With its quirky looks meant to attract the youth, NAVi is still a popular choice, given the kind of package it has on offer. The competitive price tag along with the Honda reliability factor also helps the moped present its case pretty strongly.

A segment above the NAVi, the CD Dream DX is a popular choice among the commuter segment is India. The Honda commuter entry level model lock horns with Hero Splendor, TVS Star City and the Bajaj Platina in the market. The mechanicals on this commuter bike also remain unchanged with the package still offering a 110cc 4-stroke single cylinder engine. However, apart from the mechanical bits, the CD Dream DX does have a slew of upgrades in the new model. Apart from the Combined Braking System, the 2019 model of CD Dream DX has silver colored 5 spoke alloy wheels, chrome work in handle & rear carrier, the front fender is now painted, clear lens turn indicators and new graphics all over the body. The changes may seem miniscule but they do help the commuter bike in maintaining a fresher look in the market. Not to mention that safety upgrade and a very affordable price tag are indeed customer-centric features of the bike.

On the other hand, CB Shine sits a notch above the CD Dream DX in the market and has a pretty smooth 125cc engine. It has been a strong seller for Honda in the market. However, despite being more powerful and premium than the Dream 110, CB Shine has only been updated in the braking department and no other changes have been made on the commuter bike.

CB Unicorn is a pretty preferred choice among Honda’s customers as apart from offering the frugal mileage of a commuter bike, the bike’s 150cc engine also packs a punch allowing the riders to make quick passes. Honda has always been known for producing refined and smooth engines and CB Unicorn’s 150 cc motor is no exception. CB Unicorn’s 2019 model comes not only with a standard single channel ABS, but a maintenance free sealed chain box, blue backlight in the revised instrument cluster and tubeless tyres on both front and rear.
