Second Generation Maruti Celerio To Launch in India in 2020

Maruti Suzuki launched their Celerio in the market way back in 2014 and ever since the brand has not released and update for the car in the Indian market. Although, the sales of the car have been doing well in the market, an update for the car is long due. Now there are reports on the internet claiming that the largest car maker of the Indian market is all set to bring out the latest generation of the Celerio in the Indian market. This latest model will be the second generation of the hatch in India and for now the brand has given it the codename of YNC.

The upcoming model of the hatch in the Indian market will not be a minor facelift, rather it will be an entirely new car. Just like the WagonR, the upcoming Celerio will also be based on the HEARTECT platform of the company and will see a host of new changes. The new platform from the brand will make the car both lighter and stronger than before. The lightweight steel of the HEARTECT platform makes it ideal for smaller cars. This new platform will not only ensure that the Celerio clears all the upcoming safety tests, rather it will also make the car peppier and mileage-friendly than the current model. The usage of the new platform will also mean that the dimensions of the car will increase, meaning that the passengers in the cabin can expect the car to have more space than before.

The styling of the upcoming generation of the Celerio will also undergo a major change so as to lend the new generation model of the car a fresh look in the market. One can also expect the interiors of the car to be upgraded so as to keep up with the offerings of the rivals in the market. The mechanical aspect of the car is expected to remain unchanged for now and the existing 1L petrol engine that is offered on the current Celerio is likely to be made compliant to the BS-VI emission norms that are set to kick in the upcoming year. The gearbox options are also expected to remain the same with the engine being paired to a 5 speed manual and automatic units.  

Talking of the current generation of the Celerio in the market, the hatch is a good seller for the brand. The sales figures for the month of April revealed that the hatch from India’s largest maker has sold more units that the Renault Kwid and the Tata Tiago in the Indian market. Maruti Celerio locks horns with Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago in the Indian market. The company also said that Celerio sales in these years have revealed that almost 31% of car’s customers selected the automatic gearbox option on the hatchback and the top model of Celerio accounted for more than half of the sales of the hatch. Another factor that the sales figures reveal is that the dual fuel option of CNG-petrol contributed to around 20 percent of the sales figure.
