Skoda Kushaq world premiere is happening on March 18, 2021. The much-anticipated SUV unveiling was confirmed by Skoda today. With Kushaq, the company aims to challenge the established rivals like Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Kia Seltos and Tata Harrier in the compact SUV segment. The price announcement will be followed by the unveiling. Skoda Kushaq price is expected to be in a range of Rs 11 lakh- Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The mid-sized SUV name is derived from Sanskrit word ‘Kushak’, which when translated to English, means “King of Emperor”. According to the manufacturer, the SUV will be heavily localized up to the extent of 93 percent.
Skoda Kushaq is the first model to be developed specifically for the Indian market. It is based on the VW Group’s MQB-A0-IN platform which will also underpin the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun. Dimensions wise, it will measure 4.25 meters in length while boasting the best-in-segment wheelbase of 2651mm. This will help in giving buyers ample interior space and boot capacity as well.
The production-ready model will be quite similar to the concept model showcased at last year’s Auto Expo 2020. The Kushaq’s design and styling are quite inspired by the other Skoda SUVs like Kamiq, Kodiaq and Karoq that are sold internationally. Buyers can look forward to the signature Skoda grille flanked by split projector headlamps. There is an angular bumper surrounded by large air intakes and rugged skid plate. The Imposing appearance is enhanced by the body cladding all over and chunky looking alloy wheels.
In the interior, the cabin is expected to come loaded with features like 12.3-inch infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, sunroof, cruise control, Skoda’s trademark Virtual Cockpit and automatic climate control. Expected safety equipment onboard are dual front airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. In the top-end model, one can look forward to 6 airbags, hill-hold control, rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitor, among other features.
Skoda Kushaq will come with TSI turbo-petrol engines: 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit and 1.5-litre four-cylinder motor. The former delivers 110 bhp of power output while the latter produces 150 bhp of power output. Both engines come with a 6-speed manual transmission unit. The 1.0-litre petrol engine gets a 6-speed torque convertor while the 1.5-litre engine will come with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
