India is one of the signatories to the Paris agreement to reduce global warming. India is currently in the process of adopting stringent BS6 Emission Norms to reduce vehicular pollution. With the introduction of BS6 norms, automotive manufacturers are slowly phasing out their BS4 models. Skoda India has discontinued the Octavia and Kodaiq in the country with plans of BS6 successors. Czech manufacturer had already showcased BS6 Kodiaq at the Auto Expo 2020 in February. The current-gen Octavia wasn't updated to the BS6 emission norms as Skoda has plans in the offing of a fourth-generation Octavia later this year or early 2021. With Skoda Octavia disappearing from the Skoda line-up, the segment now only has Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic.
In the starting phase, new fourth-generation Skoda Octavia would come with a BS6 compliant 2.0- litre petrol TSI Turbocharged engine churning out 190 bhp of maximum power. Later on as the demand arises, Skoda would provide more engine options for Octavia as Internationally it also comes with a 1.5 TSI engine coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. The 2.0-litre engine would be mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic. New Skoda Octavia would be based on Volkswagen's MQB platform, it would be longer and wider than the outgoing BS4 model. Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, a new touchscreen infotainment system would be the key highlights of the Fourth-Generation Skoda Octavia.
The BS4 Skoda Kodiaq flagship SUV was powered by a 2.0-Litre, diesel engine churning out 148 bhp of maximum power and 340 Nm of peak torque. At Auto Expo 2020, updated Skoda Kodiaq was showcased with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine which was said to deliver 187 bhp of power with 320 Nm of peak torque. The 2020 Skoda Kodiaq can accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 7.5 seconds. In the International market, Skoda Kodiaq is currently sold with two turbocharged petrol engines – a 1.5 litre TSI petrol motor and a 2.0 litre TSI petrol unit.
The BS6 compliant 2.0-litre engine will come equipped with a 7 speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and an All Wheel Drive system. BS6 Skoda Kodiaq will be sold as a petrol model only with no plans in offing for a diesel as of now. Kodiaq's key highlights include Virtual Cockpit fully digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof with Bounce-Back system, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SmartLink, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats among many others. It competes against the likes of Honda CR-V, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mahindra Alturas G4 in the Indian market. Due to Coronavirus Pandemic, every automotive manufacturer's plans are hit hard and have led to delays in launches. The launch of Skoda Kodiaq and Octavia would hinge on how quickly the situation normalizes in India.
