Skoda takes wraps off Kamiq SUV

The China-only small SUV will debut at Beijing motor show.

The company wants to double its sales by 2020 and has debuted a car called the Skoda Kamiq. This car will be a part of a four-model-strong SUV line-up in China. The Kamiq small SUV will debut at the Beijing motor show.

The current line-up involves Kodiaq and Karoq, as Skoda strives to double its sales to 6,00,000 in China country by 2020. Skoda boss Bernhard Maier wants to sell the Kodiaq GT to Europe in the future as well. The new small SUV is codenamed Model Q but sources say that it will be called the Kamiq, and it will be positioned below the Karoq. The car is described as a 'crossover' and will compete with Chinese cars like the Hyundai ix25, the Citroen C3-XR and the Nissan Kicks.

It will be built on a localised PQ platform, that also underpins the Chinese Rapid. Sales and marketing boss Alain Favey said the car’s price will be below the Karoq and Maier stated that it won’t be available with an electrified powertrain.
