The auto giant is planning to launch the Enyaq EV in the Indian market later this year.

Skoda Auto recently teased its upcoming electric vehicle, which is likely to debut on Friday, March 15, during the brand’s annual press conference. The new EV is going to be the company’s smallest and most affordable model in the electric vehicle segment so far. The Czech auto giant has shared a glimpse of its forthcoming affordable model in a short clip. As of now, Skoda will unveil this EV on the global market, but it could also reach Indian shores in the coming years. The auto giant is planning to launch the Enyaq EV in the Indian market later this year.

The teaser video reveals only a few details about the electric car. In the teaser, it is visible that it will get a front-facing slim LED headlight, hatchback-like styling, and DRL units, along with an illuminated Skoda logo. According to reports, the EV is expected to be based on the VW Group’s MEB Entry platform.

The manufacturer has said that the new EV will be priced at around 25,000 euros (less than INR 23 lakh). Skoda said that it is planning to reveal the new model at a lower price ‘to make electric mobility affordable’. In the brand’s global EV lineup, the upcoming electric car will join the Skoda Enyaq. The company will offer the Enyaq in different trims and body shapes.

Skoda is likely to offer the EV with two battery sets. The electric model is expected to come with a 56-kWh unit and a 38-kWh unit. It could get a maximum range of 450 km in a single charge. After its official launch in global markets, the EV is likely to rival the Volkswagen ID.2 electric hatchback.

Although the Skoda EV is slated to be revealed in the global markets first, it can also be rolled out in India, as Skoda recently said that it has plans to set foot in the Indian mass market electric car segment soon. The member of the company’s management board, Martin Jahn, said, “We are looking at everything we want to bring in volume electric cars to India. How and when we are going to do it, we do not know yet. We are looking at the options that would be best for India. But we of course want to participate in the growth of the electric (vehicle) market in India."

The auto marque is currently testing its Enyaq EV in India. The electric SUV was showcased during the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year. It will reach India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) initially. Skoda offers the Enyaq EV in various variants across global markets. The automaker is expected to launch the Enyaq 80 variant in India. It is powered by a single electric motor, which is mounted on the rear axle. The engine churns out a maximum power output of 282 bhp and a peak torque of 310 Nm.
