More-powerful variant of the 488 GTB to be revealed soon.

Ferrari’s upcoming 488 GTO will be the Italian carmaker’s most powerful, track-focused version. Leaked details of the supercar show that the car will be powered by a 710hp motor.

The images posted onto Ferrari Photo Page show what look to be the internal slides of the car. These leak information like the engine used in the supercar will be based on the one seen in the 488 Challenge. It will be the most powerful Ferrari V8 and also around 10 percent lighter than the engine in the standard car.

We expect this high-output figure to come thanks to increased turbo pressure and considerable internal modifications. The torque figure is also expected to be significantly higher than the outgoing model’s 761Nm. This upcoming Ferrari’s direct rival will be the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and it will be a replacement to the sold-out 458 Speciale. Like with most special-edition Ferrari’s the upcoming 488 model will feature a number of carbon-fibre bits on the inside and outside. Body panels like the hood, bumpers and rear spoiler will also be made from carbon-fibre.

The standard 488 makes around 325kg of downforce at 250kph while the 911 GT2 RS makes around 340kg. However, this GTO model is expected to rival that figure. The manufacturer will do this by redesigning the front and rear bumper. Rumours also suggest that the car will be equipped with carbon-fibre wheels which will dramatically affect the overall performance.
