Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door has been digitally rendered and it appears very close to the real model.

Suzuki Jimny is one of the most anticipated product launches of 2020 in the Indian market. The rumor-mill was abuzz from the past two years regarding the launch of Jimny in India as a replacement to the Gypsy but it was only a couple of months ago when Suzuki showcased the rugged off-roader at the 2020 Auto Expo. It showcased a 3-door version of the Jimny at the biennial event but a more conventional 5-door Suzuki Jimny will be launched in India. Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door has been digitally rendered and it appears very close to the real model.

Going by the rendered image, it looks that the Jimny will not be over 4 meters in length. Being codenamed as Mk4, it will have an extended wheelbase but the overall length will be kept under 4000mm to avail the GST benefits. The exterior styling will be identical to the 3-door model with very minimal changes. It will be interesting to see whether the company will christen it as 'Gypsy' or retain the global name Jimny without the Sierra suffix in the Indian market. The 3-door version comes equipped with an exclusive all-wheel-drive system however, the India-spec 5-door version of the mini-SUV could be offered with a 2WD system to keep the costs in check and make it an affordable offering.

As evident, aggressive pricing and higher mileage are two tried-and-tested formulas of success for any new vehicle in India. Hence, Suzuki is not keen on introducing the 4WD system as it will increase the overall price while reducing the mileage. Under the hood, the 2020 Suzuki Jimny will have a BS6 compliant naturally aspirated 1.5L 4-cylinder K15B petrol engine which will develop top power of 100bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 130Nm at 4000rpm. The engine could be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while a torque converter 4-speed automatic transmission could be available as optional. The 5-door version will undergo production at the company's facility in Gujarat while it will be sold via the NEXA premium chain of dealerships.
