Suzuki’s low-cost electric scooter is likely to be launched in 2021; details revealed.

Japanese two-wheeler giant, Suzuki is working on an electric scooter for the Indian market, according to a media report. The latest patent images of the electric scooter have surfaced online. It shows the mechanical layout of the upcoming electric scooter. Rumors of this new electric scooter have been around since 2019, but due to coronavirus outbreak, the development and production of the scooter seems to have been delayed. However, the leaked patent images reveal some more details about the electric scooter.

According to these images, the new scooter has an ultra basic design. The brand uses the basic round and square tubing for its frame. The battery is a simple box-shaped unit placed under the seat for easy access and removability. This hints that the electric scooter might get swappable battery feature. The battery will be placed above the motor that will be connected to the driven wheel via a conventional belt mechanism. The control unit of the scooter is placed below the floorboard. The patent images also show that the electric scooter will come equipped with conventional low-cost suspension.

The design highlight suggests that Suzuki’s new electric scooter will be an affordable offering that is focused more on the range and price than performance. This patented scooter is likely to be manufactured in India. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the production has been put on hold. Once this COVID’19 lockdown ends, Suzuki might begin with the testing of the upcoming electric scooter. It is likely to be launched sometime in 2021.
