We have been hearing a lot about Tata Altroz turbo petrol from the past few months. Even countless spy-shots have emerged of the high-performance hatchback during the test runs. Now, Tata Motors has released a teaser video which shows a red-colored Altroz with captions "Your Santa Altroz" and "Coming Soon". The teaser has set the rumormill abuzz with several speculations floating around about what Tata Motors is planning to introduce in the Indian market. In all likelihood, it will be the turbo petrol version instead of a special edition or an automatic variant.
Earlier, Tata Motors had planned to launch the Altroz turbo petrol during the festive season of Diwali in November 2020 but it didn't happen with reasons best known to the company. Furthermore, the new hatchback had made a brief appearance at Tata's official website, only to be taken down a few minutes later. Tata Altroz turbo petrol is expected to be similar to the standard version of the hatchback in terms of styling, appearance and features, save for a couple of subtle updates. It might also get new paint schemes in addition to the existing colors on offer with the Altroz range. Tata Altroz turbo petrol price will be higher by at least Rs 50,000-75,000 than the top-end variant of regular Altroz.
Tata Altroz turbo petrol will have a more powerful 1.2L engine at the helm which will belt out 108bhp at 5500rpm and 140Nm between 1500-5500rpm. The engine could be paired with a dual-clutch automatic unit besides the 5-speed manual gearbox. Presently, Tata Altroz is available with BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variants draw power from a naturally aspirated 1.2L 3-cylinder engine which delivers 85bhp at 6000rpm and 113Nm at 3300rpm. The diesel variants are powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which generates a top power of 89bhp at 4000rpm and peak torque of 200Nm between 1250-3000rpm. Both the engines are available with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard.
