Volvo takes wraps off India-bound S60

The car will get no diesel engine, but two petrol-hybrid options.

The company has shown its New S60 in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. This facility is where the company will be manufacturing this car. Henrik Green, Volvo’s research and development boss, said, “The active chassis and driving modes deliver excellent control and an engaged platform that makes this a driver’s car.”

The car will go on sale globally early by next year with a choice of four petrol engines including two plug-in hybrids. The carmaker plans to launch only electrified versions of all new models from 2019 onwards. There will be no diesel engines will be offered.

The entry-level S60 engine is the 250hp, four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbocharged T5 and there will also be a T6 supercharged all-wheel-drive unit with 310hp, which will come with with a plug-in hybrid option. The engines are mated to an eight-speed gearbox.

Since it’s a Volvo, you can expect it to come loaded with safety tech. In international markets, the S60 will be available through Volvo’s new Care by Volvo subscription service, which lets you have access to the car without owning it.
