Despite the slowdown that the auto industry in India is facing, the D-segment SUVs are going good as of now as far as sales are concerned. Currently the segment has options like the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, Tata Hexa and Hyundai Tucson for the customers in the Indian market. This is not just it as the makers have also lined up other models that will be launched shortly in the Indian market. These models include upcoming debut vehicles like the MG Hector and Kia Seltos in the Indian market. As we have already informed you, currently the Tata Harrier is the best-selling vehicle in the segment, and this means that there is a long waiting period on the SUV as of now.
While earlier the Harrier had a waiting period of 4 months in like Bangalore, now the time has come down to around 1.5 months. Currently, the longest waiting period on any SUV in this segment is on Tata Harrier, which has a waiting period of 3 months in cities Pune, Ghaziabad, and Patna. Despite this, the waiting period is still very huge for Tata Harrier or for any mass market car for that matter. The rivals of Tata Harrier like the Jeep Compass and Mahindra XUV300 come with a maximum waiting period of 3 and 6 weeks respectively. Here's the list of waiting period for the 3 SUVs in major cities of Indian market as of now.

The large waiting period on Tata Harrier is the result of the SUV’s immense popularity in the Indian market and the fact that it is a relatively new car must also not be forgotten. The new design philosophy of the brand sure is a great head turner, with the futuristic design trend that the Tata Harrier has brought in the segment, it sure looks extraordinary. SUV customers in India are naturally attracted to models that have a commanding street presence and with the IMPACT 2.0 design language, Tata Harrier has a very futuristic design that manages to turn all the heads on the road.
Tata Harrier comes only in a diesel variant with the customers getting a Fiat-sourced 2L MultiJet diesel engine under the hood. Renamed as KRYOTEC by Tata, the engine is rated for 140 PS and 350 Nm. The engine on Tata SUV currently comes equipped only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 6-speed torque converter unit sourced from Hyundai will be offered sometime this year as well.
