Tata Harrier petrol will be launched in October 2020 followed by the Gravitas in early 2021.

Tata Motors is working on three new SUVs for the Indian market which will be launched by March 2021. Recently, our friends at Rushlane spotted the upcoming Tata Gravitas alongside a camouflaged mule of purportedly petrol-powered Harrier SUV. It is believed that while the Gravitas would be introduced with a petrol engine right from the start, the Harrier will finally get it after a wait of over one and a half years. Though, the company had planned to launch these products a tad earlier but the COVID-19 played the spoilsport and it had to push back the launch to the festive season this year.

Tata Gravitas 7-seater SUV was firstly showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show while its Indian premiere took place earlier this year at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. Underpinning the same OMEGA platform as the Harrier, it appears similar to the Harrier except the addition of a third row and increased length. Not just length which has been increased by 63mm, but the width and height have also been enhanced by 72mm and 80mm, respectively. Though, the wheelbase stands identical at 2700mm. It is being learnt that Tata Gravitas will be offered in two seating configurations: 6-seater and 7-seater. Under the hood, it will get the BS6 compliant 2.0L diesel and 1.5L turbo petrol engines while it could arrive in the Indian market in early 2021.

Coming to Tata Harrier petrol, this has been a long pending demand from the existing company customers. If we look at the rivals of the SUV, then almost each of them - be it Creta, be it Seltos or be it Hector, come with a petrol engine option. Hence, the lack of a petrol engine option has been affecting the overall sales of the SUV as well. Therefore, the home-grown automaker will launch a petrol powered Harrier close to the festive season around October 2020 in the country. The BS6 compliant 1.5L turbocharged engine is expected to deliver a top power of 168bhp while torque performance could be somewhere between 250-270Nm. It will be paired with a 6-speed manual and the 6-speed automatic transmission.
