Tata Motors is preparing a new petrol powertrain for Tata Safari and Harrier SUVs. Tata Motors is all set to add a new feature to the recently launched Tata Safari and Harrier SUVs. The company is working on expanding its Tata Harrier and Safari SUV lineup by adding a new petrol powertrain. Tata Motors launched the new Tata Safari and Harrier on October 17, and the prices for their AT variants have also been revealed by the automaker. Both of these SUVs are powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Now both of these SUVs will have gasoline engines.
The recently launched Tata Harrier and Safari received a wide range of new features and design updates, while the powertrains remained the same, as both SUVs are powered by the same diesel engine used in pre-facelift versions. To provide its customers with a variety of options, the company will launch the petrol versions of its facelift SUVs.
The managing director of Tata Motors (Passenger Vehicles’), Mr. Shailesh Chandra, stated that out of the two lakh units of Tata Safari and Harrier SUVs sold per year, 80% of them are equipped with diesel engines. Tata Motors went for the diesel powertrains for its facelifted SUVs because in the SUV market almost 80% automakers preferred the 2.0-litre diesel engine as it provides better torque performance. While 20% of the SUV market prefers the petrol engine. Tata Motors has decided to opt for the petrol engine for its Tata Safari and Harrier facelift SUVs to target the other 20% of the SUV segment. The company is developing a 1.5-litre Gasoline Direct Engine. This process requires complete development and an eye to the details, so the company is still working on it.
In comparison to the 2.0-litre diesel engine, the 1.5-litre Gasoline Direct Engine will come with less torque performance, but the price for this engine will be lower than the diesel engine, as the manufacturing process will be cheaper as well. Customers who prefer the petrol engine will highly benefit from this new engine, and they can enjoy riding the new facelifted Tata Safari and Harrier SUVs.
