Tata Punch EV Breaks Cover; To Access 300 KMS Driving Range Equipped with Gen-2 Platform

Tata Motors declared that the forthcoming Punch EV is going to be equipped with automaker’s all-new Gen-2 Pure EV platform which conforms utmost efficiency and faster charging among other such things.

Tata Motors has debuted the Punch EV with its first look alongside what will be the smallest SUV in the country powered by a complete electric powertrain look alike. The automaker shared the keen information about the Punch EV while announcing the auto manufacturer’s strategy to employ its all-new Gen-2 Pure EV platform which is actually ICE to EV conversion with major changes. This EV is going to be added in the list of Tata Motors’ offerings as having both ICE and EV powertrain similar to that of Nexon. Also, the Punch EV is also the 2nd model offered by Tata Motors in the CNG fuel type similar to that of Tigor. 

The design of the Tata Punch EV will be influenced by the recently released Nexon EV. Connected LED DRLs with a closed grille, slim LED headlights, connected LED taillights, new alloy designs, and more are confirmed in the Tata Motors images that were released.

Punch will depend on a platform that conforms to a better range, huge battery along with a faster charging solution. The platform provides at least 300 kms of driving range which can reach 600 kms depending upon the battery size. It also conforms to faster charging solutions with approximately 150 KW DC fast chargers. Tata Punch EV is anticipated to be given in 2 versions like the Nexon EV. A 25 kWh battery pack is likely to power up the mod-range version while a larger 35 kWh unit will be induced in the long-range versions. The brand-new battery packs, which will be much wider and are equipped with higher density cells, promise to reinforce the overall efficiency by 10%. 

The brand-new EV platform is also a safer architecture that could ease up Tata Punch EV to score 5-star rating at crash tests. The SUV ICE version obtained a 5-star crash test rating at Global NCAP earlier. Other than employing high-strength material, the company has also upgraded the brand-new EV platform to carve out much more space inside the cabin along with maintaining higher ground clearance and ramp over angles to keep Punch SUV’s up top on challenging tracks. 

Punch EV is anticipated to be offered in 5 distinct variants, 2 charging options including a 7.2 kW fast home charger, boasts features like ventilated front seats, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, 360 degree camera, electric sunroof, and 10.23-inch virtual cockpit. Though, the car doesn’t have any strong contender in the market yet, it is expected that it can go up against the likes of Citroen eC3 due to comparative price.
