Tata’s Compass rival is built on Land Rover’s L550 platform.

The New Jeep Compass rival, codenamed H5, will be shown at this year’s Auto Expo. The car is expected to be offered in five-seat and seven-seat configurations.

Both versions are built on Land Rover Discovery Sport’s L550 platform, but will be different in terms of design and feel. Both cars will also be powered by FCA’s 2.0-litre, four-cylinder MultiJet II diesel engine, but will be tuned for different power output – the five-seater will make 140hp and 170hp for the seven-seater. The two-wheel and four-wheel-drive variants could be on offer as well.

The five-seater could cost ₹13 lakh, while the seven-seater could cost ₹15 lakh. Tata will also show its Hyundai i20 and Maruti Baleno rival, codenamed X451, in near-production form at the show.
