The car will use a camera-based system instead of door mirrors.

The company displayed the image at its Annual Shareholder Meeting in California. The compact SUV looks far more striking in comparison to its siblings and interestingly, there will be cameras instead of door mirrors. The Car will use a camera-based system with cabin screens displaying the view at the rear. For now, global laws require the use of mirrors, but the Model Y isn't going on sale anytime soon. CEO Elon Musk is looking at a 2019 or early 2020 debut, so the laws could be revised by then.

This car is based on the Model 3 platform and will feature a significantly more advanced supercomputer brain than current Teslas, according to Musk. The car will feature an advanced version of Tesla's current Autopilot technology as well. The system can already control a Car's steering, throttle and brakes on some motorways.

Tesla plans to produce an electric cargo van, pick-up and minibus using the chassis of the Model X as well. The company was expected to begin initial operations in India this year but no concrete moves have been made yet.
