Toyota Hilux is based on the same architecture as the Innova and Fortuner

Toyota Hilux is all set to launch in January 2022 in the Indian market. However, the pick-up truck has been spotted undisguised during its TVC shoot in Gurgaon (Haryana) by our friends at Team-BHP ahead of the official launch in the country. Based on the same architecture as the Innova and Fortuner, it will be offered with a couple of turbocharged diesel engines in India. Toyota Hilux will directly rival Isuzu D-Max V-Cross which comes in a price bracket of Rs 16.98-24.49 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, India).

Toyota Hilux will measure 5,285 mm in length which is substantially longer than both the Innova and Fortuner. The variant spotted in spy-images is the double-cab which will have a wheelbase of 3,085 mm. As for styling, the Hilux will flaunt sweptback headlamps with bi-projector LED lights with DRLs. It will also house the signature Toyota grille in hexagonal shape at front. Some of the notable exterior features will include alloy wheels, LED tail-lamp cluster and chrome accents. The spy-shots give a glimpse of a few accessories such as sunshades and roll bars that the pick-up truck carries. The cabin will be identical to the Fortuner and Innova with upholstery, seats and features carried over.

The Thai-spec Toyota Hilux received the highest 5-star safety rating in the crash tests conducted by the ASEAN NCAP. Mechanically, it will be powered by the same set of diesel engines as the Innova and Fortuner. The base and mid variants will be available with Innova's 2.4L diesel motor which develops top power of 150 bhp while getting a two-wheel-drive system. Though, transmission choices would include both manual and automatic units. On the other hand, the top-end variants will draw power from Fortuner's mighty 2.8L diesel mill which generates maximum power output of 204 bhp. Needless to say, it will be offered with a four-wheel-drive (4x4) system as standard.
