Coronavirus Pandemic swept across the globe with India being one of the severely affected countries. The virus first emerged in the Wuhan Province, China and since then, has affected over 100 plus countries. Economic activities had come to a standstill in India as the Government enforced lockdown to stop further transmission of the virus. Recently the authorities relaxed the lockdown to allow industries to open while following the stringent social distancing norms. Indian automobile industry opened its production units to slowly resume operations. Toyota Kirloskar Motors resumed its operations at Bidadi plant in Karnataka from the 26th of May after a 55 day period of shutdown.
Just yesteday, Toyota Kirloskar Motors had to suspend operations after two of its employees were recently tested positive for COVID-19. With the detection of cases, the automaker undertook a thorough cleaning and sanitization of the plant. According to the company, it is in close touch with the infected employees regarding their medical treatment as well as quarantine facilities. The brand is also identifying the employees who were in touch with the infected ones. The automobile company is offering the necessary quarantine as well as treatment facilities while getting in touch with the local government departments.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors resumed operations in March and followed the government health guidelines regarding safety, hygienic and sanitation. Social Distancing is an appropriate precautionary step to avoid transmission of the virus from one individual to another. It is said to be following the social distancing norms at its plant with reduced manpower. Work from home is becoming a norm at the Strategic Business Units. Employees working in this particular department in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata are currently said to be working from home.
With its emphasis on employees, Toyota Kirloskar Motors is also aiding the government in COVID-19 relief. Recently, the Automaker donated a mobile medical unit (MMU) to the IISC ( Indian Institue of Science), Bangalore. The MMU is used to conduct tests for COVID-19 and provide results in a timely manner.
