The car maker has said it is mulling the return of its 'most iconic sports car'.

The company has revealed a 'modern racing concept' which will be shown fully at the Geneva motor show. The company said it is "committed to bringing its most iconic sports car back to the market". This could be the new Supra. The image only shows a silhouette of a sizeable rear wing on the back of a sports car. The release says 'The Legend Returns', which further hints at it being possibly the Supra.

The car was developed in conjunction with the BMW Z4 and was spotted testing several times in camouflage. Last year, Koei Saga, Gazoo Racing boss, said the Supra will be branded Gazoo – the company’s racing arm. So, it will either be called the Toyota Gazoo Supra or Toyota Supra Gazoo. Like other manufacturers who make standalone brands for their respective performance divisions, such as Mercedes’ AMG, Audi’s Audi Sport and the recently announced Cupra from Seat.

The Supra’s engine will be a tweaked version of the unit from the new Z4 – a turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine delivering 345hp. The Supra is also built on the same platform as the upcoming Z4. The Supra started life in 1979, and over its four generations, it has been regarded as one of the most iconic Japanese performance cars ever.
