Performance oriented TRD version of the Supra has been revealed

After years of waiting, Toyota finally launched the fifth-generation Supra few weeks back. Toyota’s performance division, Toyota Racing Development has now released pictures of how it can amplify the sports coupe.

The TRD iteration of the car is known as Toyota GR Supra Performance Line Concept TRD. The pictures showcase two images of the concept car with few design modifications. Up front, the car gets front spoilers with huge fins to increase downforce and reduce lift up during high-speed runs. It also gets side skirts that help in maintaining a lowered center of gravity due to the low position of the skirts. The door garnish is designed to mitigate airflow turbulence and employ a smoother airflow to the rear end while still enhancing the looks.

At the rear, spats are added for added stability to the rear-wheel-drive coupe. A trunk spoiler is also equipped to bring aerodynamic balance to the vehicle. Aside from the aesthetic upgrade and aerodynamic advantage, the TRD parts are purposely made to make the Supra gain a wider stance, addressing unintended yaw.

Lastly, the Toyota GR Supra Performance Line Concept TRD comes with a set of light 19-inch forged aluminum wheels with mesh spoke design. TRD hasn’t revealed any suspension and brake enhancements in the unveiled concept, but a "To Be Continued" sign on the page hints that there's more to come for the Supra TRD.

Mechanically, the Supra TRD will remain unchanged and is powered by a 3.0-litre inline-six-cylinder petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, both of which are sourced from BMW. This produces 335 HP of peak power and 495 Nm of peak torque.
