Toyota takes wraps off its new RAV4 SUV

The SUV will make its debut at the New York Auto Show.

The company has shown a newer and much tougher-looking RAV4. The SUV is built on Toyota’s New Global Architecture platform and is available with one hybrid option and one petrol variant. There will be no diesel version of this car and Toyota’s plans to phase out oil-burning models around the world by end-2018.

At launch, the you can buy this car with a 2.0-litre petrol, and the new car also features an updated all-wheel drive system that can disconnect the rear axle to improve fuel economy. The other engine is a 2.5-litre petrol engine that works with an electric motor.

On the inside, the cabin is plusher and features a centrally mounted infotainment system. This SUV competes with the Jeep Compass and the Nissan X-Trail internationally.
