The Urban Cruiser will be powered by the BS6 compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine seen in the Vitara Brezza.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is starting bookings for the much-anticipated Urban Cruiser subcompact SUV by the end of August 2020. Toyota Urban Cruiser launch is expected to take place in the festive season around September-October. The Japanese automaker will foray into the highly competitive compact SUV segment with the launch of Urban Cruiser in India. It will mainly rival the likes of Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon. Toyota Urban Cruiser price is expected to be in the range of Rs 8-12 Lakhs (ex-showroom).

Toyota Urban Cruiser is the second vehicle to go into production as part of the deal signed in 2018 between Toyota Kirloskar Motors and Maruti Suzuki. The first car to emerge was the Toyota Glanza which was based on Maruti Baleno while Toyota Urban Cruiser is a rebadged version of Vitara Brezza. Considering the Glanza selling 2500 plus units on a monthly basis, expectations are high around Toyota Urban Cruiser. It is going to target younger consumers which was evident from the recently released teaser image that revealed the front grille of the subcompact SUV.

The difference between Toyota Urban Cruiser and Maruti Vitara Brezza lies in the revamped twin-slate front grille and interior features. Toyota Urban Cruiser will come with a dual-tone colour option. These would be the key differences between the two models. We don’t expect the Toyota subcompact SUV to come with major updates. We can expect it to sport features like automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system with support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and multifunction steering wheel. Toyota Urban Cruiser will come with 16-inch alloy wheels which have also been seen in the Vitara Brezza if we go by the teaser image.

If we talk about the powertrain, Urban Cruiser will be powered by the BS6 1.5-litre petrol engine. This engine also powers the Vitara Brezza. The engine will deliver 103 bhp of maximum power and 128 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic unit. In Vitara Brezza, the automatic variants come with a smart hybrid system. The Urban Cruiser manual and automatic variants could come with a smart hybrid system too.
