Toyota India is all set to launch the all-new Urban Cruiser subcompact SUV in the Indian market. The company has already revealed most of the details regarding the vehicle which is expected to launch on September 22, 2020 in the country. Recently, Toyota Urban Cruiser was spotted in flesh during one of its TVC shoots. Being the second product after Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza to be cross badged under the Toyota-Suzuki global partnership, it is based on the Vitara Brezza with a handful of cosmetic updates.
Toyota Urban Cruiser will be available in three trim levels: Mid, High and Premium. The front fascia will be similar to Maruti Vitara Brezza, except the Toyota badge and a slightly tweaked bumper. Interestingly, it will flaunt LED projector headlamps as standard feature across the entire variant lineup. Toyota Urban Cruiser color schemes would include six single-tone and three dual-tone options. The single-tone colors will be Blue, Brown, White, Orange, Silver and Grey while the dual-tone paint shades will be Blue and Black, Brown and Black, Orange and White. As for features, it will come with rain sensing wipers, cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Mechanically, Toyota Urban Cruiser will be available only with a BS6 compliant petrol engine. It will be powered by the same BS6 compliant 1.5L 4-cylinder K-Series motor that is at the helm of Maruti Vitara Brezza. This engine will develop a top power of 104bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 138Nm at 4400rpm while paired to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as optional. Furthermore, the automatic variants will also boast of a lithium-ion battery with an integrated starter generator (ISG). Toyota Urban Cruiser bookings had already begun both online and at the company's authorized dealerships while it will rival the likes of Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Kia Sonet in the Indian market.
