The government trademark website reveals an application by the company for the name.

The Akula, an all-carbon-fibre race bike concept based on the BMW G 310 R, was unveiled earlier at the 2016 Auto Expo. Now, there’s news on what the final production version of the bike might be called.

While the earlier assumption was that the concept’s name, Akula 310, would make it to the production bike, news came out later that TVS would stick to calling it the Apache RTR 300. The Government of India’s Intellectual Property website shows that TVS has filed a trademark for the name 'Apache RR 310S' on April 26, 2017.

Sources close to the company say that when viewed head on, the fairing of the bike resembles a shark with its mouth open. And that this was a conscious design choice since 'Akula' is the Russian word for shark.
