The facelifted Honda City will get design updates and a new top-spec ZX trim; bookings are open at Rs 21,000.

The car has been a segment bestseller for a long time, though in recent months it faced stiff competition from the Maruti Ciaz which outsold the City in certain months of 2016. Other rival have also beefed up their offerings, with Skoda giving the Rapid a facelift and Volkswagen constantly updating the Vento. With this upgrade, Honda will be trying to regain people’s interest in the City. For those interested, the updated Honda City is available for booking at Rs 21,000.

Take a look at what’s heading your way:

1. Design updates

It gets a new Civic-like nose and chin, a chrome band that goes across the grille and connects both headlamps which have also received minor tweaks and house LED DRLs. There’s a restyled front bumper with clear divisions for the front air dam and fog lamp housing. The rear gets a tailgate-mounted spoiler and new-design tail-lamps with LEDs. Spy shots of the new City seem to indicate that there may also be a new set of alloys for the top trim.

2. All mechanicals remain the same

There will be no change in the 1.5-litre petrol or the 1.5-litre diesel engines. It does, however, get a revised suspension and will ride 10mm higher than its predecessor.

3. Equipment upgrades

The City gets a new infotainment system with Android Auto and a mobile mirror feature. Honda is co-developing this system with Blaupunkt. Top specs cars will also get six airbags, leather seats and a soft-touch dash.

4. The City ZX returns

Honda will bring back the ‘City ZX’ badge with the 2017 Honda City; it was used earlier on the Indian second-gen Honda City.
