Kia Sonet will be unveiled on August 7, 2020 in the Indian market. However, ahead of the official debut, the rear profile of the subcompact SUV has been revealed in a teaser video by the company. Insiders have told us that the Sonet will go on sale in September 2020 with bookings starting post August 15 in the country. Being showcased as a Concept at the 2020 Auto Expo, Kia Sonet production ready version is not much different and it gets majorly the same styling elements as we had seen with the Sonet concept at the biennial event.
Going by the teaser video, one can clearly spot wraparound LED tail-lamps and a stop lamp unit at the rear end. The tail lights are integrated into each other by a sleek reflector strip as it fills in the shoes of the LED light bar which we had seen on the concept model. There is the Kia emblem in the centre. The windscreen compliments the boot storage area and creates a massive glasshouse. The teaser video also shows several other styling elements such as roof-rails, roof-mounted lip spoiler, rear wiper and rear-set antenna. The Sonet is poised to debut a few first-in-class features such as 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto & UVO car connect tech, sunroof and a Bose audio system.
Mechanically, Kia Sonet will be available in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with as many as four powertrain-transmission combinations. There will be a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine with manual gearbox as standard. The diesel variants will be powered by a 1.5L motor with both manual and torque converter automatic units. In addition, there will be a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine which will be offered with a manual as well as dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Kia Sonet price is expected to be in the range of Rs 7-12 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). It will rival the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300 in the Indian market.
