The E20X SUV will be the brand’s first EV.

The carmaker has created a new electric car brand, called SOL, for the Chinese market. The new company’s first offering, the E20X electric SUV, was shown at the Beijing motor show.

The new brand is born out of the parent company Jianghuai Volkswagen Automotive, VW’s Chinese venture with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp (JAC). The car will go on sale at the end of the year and is based on JAC’s iEV7S SUV (an all-electric model already available in China). You will obviously see a lot of VW Group styling elements on the car.

For now, powertrain details are scarce, but the E20X uses the same lithium-ion battery pack and electric motor as the iEV7S. It can cover 300km on a single charge, according to the New European Driving Cycle and offers smart charging, self-parking technology and a 360-degree parking camera.
