The Taigun will come to India via the CKD route with the expected price tag of Rs 20 lakhs.

Volkswagen Taigun launch is much-talked-about in the Indian automotive industry. Now, the details about the launch of the upcoming SUV in India have been revealed. Our friends at ET Auto have come to know that Volkswagen Taigun launch will happen before the Diwali festive season. The SUV will become the first Volkswagen vehicle to be based on the MQB AO IN platform. The platform also underpins the upcoming Skoda Kushaq which is all set to be launched in March 2021. Both the models are a part of Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 project as the automaker plans to renew its focus on the fast-growing Indian automobile sector. The pre-production Volkswagen Taigun was showcased at 2020 Auto Expo in Greater Noida.

VW Taigun will come to India via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route with the expected price tag of Rs 20 lakhs (Ex Showroom). The SUV will compete against Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and MG Hector in the country. Expectations are huge from the SUV regarding its success, considering other VW SUV models like T-Roc and Tiguan All-Space were sold out within months of their launch in 2020.

The Taigun's design is inspired by bigger Volkswagen SUVs like the T-ROC and the Tiguan. Dimension wise, the new VW Taigun would be taller, wider and longer than T-Cross which is sold in various international markets. The design and styling would be similar to German automaker’s other SUVs. Going by the spy shots of the Taigun, one can look forward to dual LED headlamps housing LED DRLs, bumper with chrome elements, wider air dams, faux skid plates and horizontal grille with chrome elements at the front. Moving to the rear, one can spot single-bar LED taillamps and bumper with a faux diffuser plate. Overall, it is imposing and boxy in appearance.

The cabin will be spacious thanks to the increased wheelbase. Additionally, the equipment list on-board the SUV will include a larger touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, fully digital instrument cluster and LED ambient lighting among others. In all, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun will be quite similar in terms of features and engine options considering they are based on the same platform.

Volkswagen Taigun would come with two turbo-petrol engine options namely 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI. The transmission options could be a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic or 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch transmission) unit.
