Volkswagen Taigun will be launched in India by mid 2021, confirmed Steffen Knapp, Director, VW India.

Volkswagen India had announced to launch four new SUV models in the country. The German automaker has already launched two new SUVs in the form of Tiguan Allspace and T-Roc while it is readying the other two SUV models. One of the two remaining SUVs that is awaiting its India launch is Volkswagen Taigun, which was also showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. Recently, Steffen Knapp, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, shared a few more details regarding the upcoming VW Taigun in an exclusive interview with CarAndBike.

Volkswagen Taigun SUV will launch by mid 2021 in the Indian market. Earlier, it was scheduled to launch by the festive season of Diwali around October-November 2020 but it has been pushed forward due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Surprisingly, it will not be available with an AWD system like the international-spec model but with a 2WD. Although, there will be a choice of transmission option between manual and automatic. Explaining this further Knapp said, “If you look at the market there is hardly any all-wheel drive vehicle available in this category and the Taigun too is a more urban vehicle”. He further revealed that the VW Taigun will initially be powered by a 1.0L turbocharged TSI petrol engine which will develop a top power of 108bhp. The company might add a few more engine options at a later stage.

Underpinning the new MQB A0 IN architecture, Volkswagen Taigun has been specifically developed for emerging markets such as India. As far as styling goes, it will flaunt a few premium elements in the form of LED headlamp and tail-lamp cluster, single-bar rear LED brake lamp, and faux diffusers on the rear bumper. The cabin will be loaded with bells and whistles like fully digital instrument cluster, fast-charging USB slots, automatic climate control with rear vents, keyless entry and huge touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The new VW Taigun will adhere to the pedestrian safety norms while at the some being equipped with exquisite safety features such as six-airbags, ABW with EBD, seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, and ISOFIX child seat anchors etc. to name a few.
