This will be the smallest SUV in the carmaker’s portfolio

The small, premium SUV segment has a new entrant, Volvo’s upcoming XC40. This is the first car to be based on the company’s new Compact Modular Architecture platform, and it will come with a lot of customisable options. Volvo intends to target this car at the youth.
Based on a leaked picture, the Volvo’s tail-lamp and rear bumper design look similar to that of the V40.

The XC40 is expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show, and it will be powered by a new, three-pot, 1.5-litre petrol unit. There will be a slew of petrol and diesel engines and a 180hp hybrid model is also in the works. The hybrid motor will be mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox and will have an all-electric range of 48km.

There will be three variants for the XC40 – Momentum, R-Design and Inscription. The car will rival Jaguar’s E-Pace, Mercedes-Benz’ GLA, BMW’s X1 and Audi’s Q3.
