The Swedish carmaker, Volvo has confirmed the plan of assembling their flagship SUV, the XC90 in India. The new generation of the XC90 was launched in India earlier this year and the vehicle is imported from Sweden and sold as complete built-up units (CBU) in our market.
Volvo is going to commence assembling the vehicles from 2019 at the company’s facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Both the variants of the XC90 T8 i.e. the Inscription and Excellence will be assembled here. Moreover, in the next three years, Volvo is planning to introduce four new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and a new all-electric vehicle in our market.
The XC90 T8 is powered by a combined setup of a 2.0-litre turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder petrol engine rated to churn out 320 BHP along with an electric motor which makes 87 BHP. The total output stands at 407 BHP and 400 Nm of torque. It gets an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV is a four-wheel drive vehicle in which the engine powers the front wheels and the electric motor powers the rear wheels.
Even after local assembling, the price of the XC90 T8 is expected to stay the same or just reduce slightly. The T8 Inscription variant is priced at Rs. 96.65 lakhs and the T8 Excellence is available for Rs. 1.31 crore (all prices, ex-showroom).
