The Tiguan will be manufactured at the German automaker’s Aurangabad, Maharashtra, facility. The SUV is available in two trims - VW, however, is not offering the base Trendline variant. The Tiguan is available only in Comfortline and Highline trims.
The Comfortline trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and DRL, electrically-adjustable heated front seats, cruise control and paddle shifters. The Highline variant adds in the larger 18-inch alloys, panoramic sunroof and a reverse parking camera.
As far as safety is concerned VW offers ABS, ESC, curtain and front airbags, front and rear parking sensors and rain sensing wipers as standard fitment.
Under the hood sits a 143hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine paired with the automaker’s seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Four-wheel drive is standard, but we could see a two-wheel-drive variant in the future.
The SUV released here is in its standard five-seat form – the same model shown to the Indian public at the Auto Expo last year. VW has a seven-seat version on sale internationally, but there’s no confirmation on whether that car will make it here.
