Mahindra has upped the ante in the compact SUV segment with the launch of the feature rich XUV300
Mahindra’s third attempt in the compact SUV segment comes in the form of the XUV300. It is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli and offers a lot of segment first and segment unique features. So much so that it even overshadows its elder sibling, the XUV500 in terms of being better equipped. Don’t believe us? Here’s the proof:
1. 7 Airbags
We Indians are increasingly giving more importance to a car’s safety parameter and Mahindra understands that. While the XUV500 offers as many as 6 Airbags, the XUV300 adds in a knee airbag that is very essential during frontal impacts. This also makes it the only compact SUV in India to have 7 airbags. However do note, these are only offered on the top spec W8 (O) model.
2. Front parking sensors
The XUV300 offers first in segment front parking sensors that come handy during tight parking maneuvres and while driving on congested roads. No more scratching the front bumper! Again, this feature is not found on the more expensive and larger XUV500
3. Dual zone air-con
While both the XUV500 and XUV300 get a proper climate control, the new kid on the block takes the game up level up. It is the only compact SUV to offer a dual zone air-con. This means, both the front passengers can control their individual temperature settings. That said, let us also add that the XUV300 does not come with rear air-con vents!
4. Heated outside mirrors
Though we agree this feature will not be used by everyone, it will be of help to those who live in hill stations. Cold environmental conditions is where heated outside mirrors turn out to be a boon, helping remove moisture from the glass quickly. Likewise, this will also be useful in the monsoons we believe. Nevertheless, a cool show-off feature in front of your friends, right?
5. Steering modes
Trust us, this is more just an electronic gimmick. The smart steer technology on the XUV300 offers three different models of Sport, Normal and Comfort. Depending on the mode you pick, steering effort will change and so will the feedback. For example, for highway speeds, shifting to Sport mode adds in a bit of weight to the steering and this infuses confidence in the the driver. For lower speeds, switching to comfort makes the steering lighter.
As you read above, the XUV300 indeed offers features not even seen in cars that more expensive. It also offers a sunroof, smart watch connectivity, push button start, tyretronics et al depending on the version you pick. Priced from Rs 7.9 lakh for the petrol line up and Rs 8.49 lakh for the diesel range, the XUV300 is turning out to be yet another successful product from Mahindra.
Suzuki will first sell these two models in North America and Europe. Suzuki will start selling the GSX-S1000GX model in December 2023 and the GSX-8R in January 2024.
