Japanese two-wheeler giant, Yamaha has confirmed that it will only deal in the premium bike segment and will introduce bikes over the 150cc segment. Currently, the brand is prepping up to launch the new FZ-X 150cc retro-styled naked bike in the Indian market. The bike has already been spotted doing test runs on the Indian road.
Currently, Yamaha sells motorcycles under three brand names - R, FZ, and MT, in the domestic market. Besides this, Yamaha has another brand in its international portfolio - Tracer. It sells sports tourers - Tracer 700 & Tracer 900, with bigger capacity engines under the brand name Tracer, globally. In fact, Tracer 900 is sold in Asian markets like Thailand and Indonesia.
The two-wheeler giant has recently trademarked the nameplate ‘Tracer’ for the Indian market. We can expect the brand to get sports tourers in the country anytime soon. The details regarding the same have not been revealed yet. However, there are speculations that Yamaha could introduce the Tracer 250 in India. Talking about the new Tracer 250, it might share its design with the bigger Tracer 700. While the engine specifications could be borrowed from the popular MT 25. The engine will be tuned in such a way that it meets the needs of a Sports Tourer. Also, the new bike is expected to be based on the same platform that underpins MT 25. The upcoming bike might come with a large windshield, split seat, USD front forks among many others.
