VW’s India-bound Tiguan is one of the contenders for the 2017 World Car of the Year award.

The shortlisted nominees for the World Car of the Year Award have been announced. The candidates are the Audi Q5, the Jaguar F-Pace and the Volkswagen Tiguan. The VW Group has two finalists, with the second-generation Q5 and Tiguan beating the rest of the pack. The winners will be announced at the New York Motor Show on April 13, 2017.

All three cars will go on sale in India too; the Jaguar F-Pace is already on sale here since last year. What's interesting is that all three cars are SUVs, which shows how much the market for them has grown over the past few years.
