The new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar made its world premiere today via digital route.

Mahindra & Mahindra has officially announced the launch of new-gen 2020 Thar on October 2, 2020 in the Indian market. Having said that, the bookings and deliveries of the new rugged off-roader will start then only. The new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar made its world premiere today via digital route. It will be at loggerheads with Force Gurkha and the upcoming Maruti Jimny in the Indian market. The 2020 Thar India launch has been specially planned for October 2 because the company completes 75 years of its existence as it was established in 1945 on this very date.

The new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar has been presented in two trims: Adventure (AX Series) and Lifestyle (LX Series). The former is a fixed soft top variant with a 6-seater configuration in the form of 2 Front + 4 Side facing layout, while the latter boasts of a convertible/hardtop option with a 4-seater configuration with front facing last row. Some of the salient features of the SUV are a newly designed Instrument Cluster with TFT Multi Information Display, Electronic HVAC controls, Drizzle resistant dashboard switches, Cruise control, Steering mounted audio & phone controls and a 18 cm touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, USB and Navigation. The AX trim will also get the first-in-segment Adventure Statistics Display and Mahindra Adventure Calendar Display.

As far as safety features are concerned, the 2020 Mahindra Thar comes loaded with Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and Rear parking sensors as standard. The SUV also gets a myriad of first-in-segment bells and whistles in the form of ESP with Rollover Mitigation, Built-in Roll-cage with 3-Point Seat belts for all passengers, Hill Hold & Hill Descent Control and ISOFIX Child Seat Mounts. Mechanically, it is introduced with BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variants are powered by a 2.0L mStallion TGDi engine which develops 150bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. The diesel variants fetch power from a 2.2L mHawk CRDe engine with 130bhp and 320Nm. Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. However, the LX (Lifestyle) also get the 6-speed auto gearbox with both petrol and diesel engines.
