The new CVT gearbox on MG Hector and Hector Plus is offered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine

MG Motor India is on a roll in 2021 with a slew of new launches taking place in the domestic market. Today, the MG Hector line-up was further expanded with an addition of a new variant. MG Hector with a CVT automatic gearbox has now been introduced into India having a price tag of Rs 16.51 lakhs (ex-showroom). The new CVT variant comes in the heels of MG Hector Facelift which was launched last month. The CVT transmission option will be offered in both the 5-seater Hector and 6-seater Hector Plus models. The 5-seater MG Hector CVT is available in two variants - Smart and Sharp priced at Rs 16.51 lakhs and Rs 18.09 lakhs, respectively. While the 7-seater provides the CVT option in the form of two trims that are Hector Plus Smart and Sharp. The former is priced at Rs 17.21 lakhs while the latter retails at Rs 18.89 lakhs. All the prices mentioned here are (ex-showroom), India.

Besides this new inclusion, the MG Hector and Hector Plus will continue to offer DCT transmission introduced earlier. When compared, the manufacturer claims that the CVT will offer a more comfortable driving experience on Indian roads. On the other hand, the DCT gearbox is designed to offer a more spirited driving experience. The 2021 MG Hector will compete against the likes of Jeep Compass Facelift, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV500 in its segment.

Apart from the addition of a new CVT gearbox, there is no major update on the New MG Hector considering that the model already received an upgrade in January 2021. The major design changes included a redesigned grille, revamped front bumper, tail lights connected by a glossy black strip, among others. The SUV rides on a new set of 18-inch alloys replacing the older model’s 17-inch wheels. As for the interior, the cabin gets a handful of updates like an updated touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, new i-Smart system, wireless charging among a few. Talking about the new i-Smart system, it is quite impressive as it helps the user to command the car’s system to perform functions like opening the sunroof, adjusting cabin’s temperature and set navigation. From a sheer convenience point of view the system understands English, Hindi as well as Hinglish Voice Commands.

The new CVT variants on the MG Hector and Hector Plus are offered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that delivers performance figures of 141 bhp and 250 Nm. The eight-speed CVT gearbox provides two driving modes namely Eco and Sport. The CVT transmission addition is quite significant as it is quite cheaper than the DCT variants.
