Audi plans to launch 10 cars in India this year, which includes all new and updated models. The New A5 is one of these – it will be offered in three body styles when launched later this year. Its predecessor was only offered as the performance S5 Sportback, but the new A5 will be on sale as a Coupe, Cabriolet and Sportback.
This car is based on the A4 and could share most of its tech and mechanicals. The petrol engine, however, will be different - the 1.4 TFSI unit from the current A4 is not available in the A5 globally. The A5 is offered abroad with four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. The petrol range starts with an entry-level 190hp, 2.0-litre petrol motor and there’s also a more potent 252hp, 2.0-litre unit as well. The diesel gets a 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine and the larger 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel in two states of tune – 218hp and 272hp.
The A5 for India could be offered with the 190hp, 2.0-litre petrol motor alongside the 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine with both paired to automatic gearboxes. There is a chance that Audi may bring the power-packed S5 and RS5 models as well at a later stage. The A5 Cabriolet will go up against the Mercedes C300 Cabriolet - the Coupe and Sportback have no real direct competition in the segment.
